WebAbstract Bioremediation of nickel by chlorophycean bioremediator, Chlorococcum hemicolum was investigated. The growth rates at various concentrations of Ni2+ were assessed in terms of protein level and 12 mg L (-1) of the Ni2+ is the tolerance limit (46.76% level of growth kinetics). Webwere again substantially more sensitive to these heavy metals than were chlorophycean lichens. Chlorophycean lichens were more sensitive to Cd [Fig. 1(b)] and, especially, Cu [Fig. 1(c)] than to Zn. Table 2 contains data on the total concentrations of Zn, Mg, Ca and K in thoroughly washed samples of the lichens used for Zn sensitivity tests.
