On the older trannys, they don't like to downshift into first gear if you aren't stopped, and even then you should take it to 2nd, then into first. WebDec 21, 2012 · `Blocking' of 1st gear (ie. difficulty of engaging it when stationary, engine running or not) was a criticism when the 4 synchro remote box first came out. I have seen this in a few Minis over the years, thankfully not mine! Usually, frm neutral, bumping against 2nd gear then into 1st eases the problem a bit.

When the car came new there should have been a tag on the gear shift that said something along the lines of the car being at full stop and pausing before engaging reverse.
