WebJul 25, 2010 · Manual specifies Champion L78V plugs (non-resistor) but after reading some info on the Champion website it seems like the QL78V (resistor type) may be better suited. The "Q" designation is a resistor type plug and according to the tech info they are used with CDI type ignition systems to suppress RFI interference. The '71 Merc uses a CDI ignition. WebJul 14, 2024 · Generally, a Briggs engine’s spark plug gap size for a standard resistor should be around .030”. However, the spark plug size may vary depending on the tool or vehicle. The spark plug size in a chainsaw, blower, and mower has different spark plug sizes as they have different functions and architecture.
Resistor in spark plug
Did you know?
A spark plug is an electrical device used in an internal combustion engine to produce a spark which ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. As part of the engine's ignition system, the spark plug receives high-voltage electricity (generated by an ignition coil in modern engines and transmitted via a spark plug wire) which it uses to generate a spark in the small gap between the positive and negative electrodes. The timing of the spark is a key factor in the engine'… WebA resistor does not hurt performance. More spark energy does not boost performance. 1. level 1. · 10 mo. ago. WebFeb 26, 2024 · Basically, you remove the resistor in a spark plug and replace it with a piece of copper wire. I thought this was an interesting idea mainly because non resistor plugs are not locally available for me. Here’s a link to the procedure by one guy. There are a couple others, but all seem to use the same principle. Thanks, Craig. WebOct 19, 2006 · Researching some spark plug info, and came accross this testing done on resistance in spark plugs. Sometimes all i could aquire was resistor plugs, (in addition to the resistor caps) although specs call for non-resistor plugs, and i noticed that fuel fouling would cause the plug to quit, and my only recourse was to change them out.
